  • Elegance

    Last week’s Casual Friday post revolved around natural light, but this week it is all about artificial light. While natural light is usually my preference, I really love this picture of a chandelier. I love the rich red background and the way the light is hitting the fixture. Funny thing is, I randomly took this as I was waiting for a show to start. For a photo taken in a bar/venue, I think it turned out very elegant!

    For those in the Chicago area, or those curious where this was taken, it was at Angels & Kings in the city. Despite being a small place, it is filled with some pretty awesome details.

    Wedding Timeline Schedule
    February 1st, 2010

    I always have a meeting with my wedding clients a month or two before their wedding so that we can go over final details – some special shots that they want, who they want in their formals, and of course, the schedule. I need to know the schedule so I don’t miss certain important aspects of the day, obviously, but I also want to make sure that there is enough time in there to get all the shots that the couple wants. That’s why this schedule that I’m posting about is fantastic.

    Devised by the creative brains over at Wedding Chicks, this schedule not only makes a lot of sense, and is concise (thank goodness! I hate long forms!), but also has specific notes relating to the photography aspect of the wedding. It gives tips and schedules in time for some shots that might not immediately come to mind. Oh, and it’s really cute. A little beauty never hurt anything, right?

    So, if you’re currently planning a wedding, or a photographer in need of a schedule, head on over to the blog post at Wedding Chicks to download it and read a bit more about it.

    Casual Friday :: Window Light
    January 29th, 2010

    Flowers & Sun

    Winter in Chicago can be completely uninspiring photographically-wise… the days end early, the weather is always overcast, the snow becomes gray and dirty within 24 hours of falling, and the temperature is often crippling. Imagine how excited I was yesterday when I saw gorgeous light streaming in through the window at work. Sunshine! And window light, my favorite type of light!

    I quickly grabbed my camera (which happened to be fitted with my 50mm lens, perfect!) and took some pictures of the random vase and fake flowers that happened to be there. Very impromptu, slightly random, but it was beautiful sunshine! It made my morning, to say the least.

    So, please, enjoy these almost springlike photos – especially if you’re located in a frigid climate. Read the rest of this entry »

    Canvas Samples!
    January 25th, 2010

    Canvas Samples

    I just started offering canvases, metallic prints, and albums at the beginning of this year and am finally starting to get some samples to show clients at consults. This past Friday I got my metallic print samples in the mail, and today I got a mix of samples, including a standout, a masonite mount, and a canvas. Seeing photos blown up, ready to mount on the wall is totally different from seeing the image on the computer or just a print. I can’t wait to share these with with everyone! For now, here are a few photos, but they truly do not do justice to the actual product. Read the rest of this entry »

    Casual Friday :: Objects
    January 22nd, 2010

    Canon TX

    Today’s Casual Friday post doesn’t feature any people, just some objects. Several of these are every day items that I walk by all the time. It’s amazing what pretty things are around if you just look.

    Oh, and this is another film post – All shot with my 35mm Canon TX. I’m doing my best to keep up with shooting film as well as digital! Aside from the one image I converted to black and white, these are all straight scans from the prints with very minor contrast adjustments. Read the rest of this entry »
