I take a lot of pictures. I never go anywhere without a camera, whether it be a DSLR, a point and shoot, or a film camera.
A lot of pictures never get blogged, or even shown to the world, and I find that just plain sad. Just because the photos aren’t of a planned shoot or a concert doesn’t mean that they’re not special or good! So, I’m starting “Casual Fridays” – every Friday I will be posting a shot, or several shots, that are not work related. Sometimes the photos will be artsy, sometimes they’ll tell a story, and sometimes they’ll just be for fun. Either way, I hope people enjoy a little glimpse into my non-working life!
And now for a bit about today’s entry…
For “jobs” I shoot digital. It’s what I’m comfortable with, turnaround time is quicker, and I’m able to shoot a lot of frames without worrying about developing costs. However, I still love film. I own a ton of film cameras – all but one of them from the 1970s or before. I love the quirks you get with old film cameras.
These past few weeks, I’ve been taking my Canon TX out on walks with me after work. It’s a 35mm camera from 1974ish, and it’s also the first SLR that I owned.
These are just prints that I scanned in, so they’re not the best quality, but you can still see the film-y goodness.

WOW! Love all! stunning film work!
wow, they’re gorgeous! the first one, especially, would make a great print.
Alexandre – Thank you so much! I’m having fun playing around with film more lately!
Thao – Thanks! I’m thinking I might need to shoot some film at your wedding… It’s such a different look from digital. We’ll chat about as it gets closer!
film is fantastic! and these shots are lovely. I have just recently gone back to 100% film and do not regret it. I would love to see some more of your film work, especially with your eye for composition.
Thanks Tracy! I’ve seen some of your recent film stuff – it’s amazing, and totally fits your look. Huge commitment to ditching digital, but it looks like it’s working for you.
I really really want to do more film. My biggest obstacle is that often, when I have time to take pictures, it’s too dark to use the lovely 100 or 200ISO film that I have in the cameras because it’s later in the day or I’m inside. I need to make a more dedicated effort to actually using film in photo shoots. I’m shooting a wedding in February where they asked me to mix film in with the digital, so I need to get in more film practice before then!
