Hi, and welcome to my blog. My name is Tasha Schalk, and I am the photographer/owner of Redwall Photo. This blog is where I will post photos from my shoots and daily life, as well as recommendations for vendors and some tips for photographers. Stick around a while and get to know me. I'm fun.

As always, feel free to contact me at tasha@redwallphotography.com or 708.717.2811 if you have any questions, would just like to chat, or would like to book a consult. I'm located in the Chicago area, but do occasionally travel!

    Children :: Eli

    Children :: Eli

    One of my favorite couples in the world had baby boy Eli just a few weeks ago. This was their second (you can see their first adorable little boy as the opening image of my family portfolio), and I’m so happy for them.

    For the purely selfish reasons of wanting to see them and to get some baby time, I offered to take photos of Eli one evening. Despite a funny setback that might make for a good story some other time, we finally did just that. One night after work, we had some pizza together, hung out with the rest of the family (their sister Lauren was my maid of honor at my wedding, and we’ve throughly adopted their parents), and took some photos. Eli was a bit cranky for some of the night, but we got a good few minutes of sleepy time which is when I got most of these.

    Couldn’t you just eat him up?

    Children :: Kari's 1st Birthday

    With my biological niece and nephew thousands of miles away (and teenagers already!), I’ve adopted Kari as my Chicago niece. Seeing as how Kari’s mom, Jayme, has been my husband’s “sister” since college, it all works out in some weird way. Anyway. Last Saturday was Kari’s first birthday party and I volunteered to take photos so Jayme could enjoy the day and the company (don’t worry Jayme, it wasn’t a freebie, one day we’ll have a kid and you can return the favor!).

    The party was a big explosion of photos, babies, cake, and pink. In other words, everything it should be!

    Happy birthday Kari, and two thumbs up to Jayme and Tim for raising such a fun little girl!

    Baby Shower :: Jake & Natalie

    (Baby Sarah… awwwwh)

    Two weeks ago, the Bishops had beautiful baby Sarah…. on the date scheduled for their baby shower!

    So, we rescheduled to this past week.

    I was only able to stay for a little while since it was the the day before all the photos were due for the university’s alumni magazine (me = on a deadline!)… and took pictures for only a few minutes since I was trying to eat lunch while playing with Kari, my friends’ daughter and my adopted niece. While these are really just snapshots, and originally never intended for my blog, I thought I’d share – baby showers are such a happy event, and I like happy.

    Big thanks to Jayme for planning a wonderful event, and congrats to Jake & Natalie on their beautiful baby girl! (more…)

    Portraits :: Tews Family

    This was one of the last family sessions I did this year, because Chicago winters are just not good for outdoor shoots! I was a little sad that the sun didn’t peek out for our morning family session, but I still think we got some adorable shots. I mean, with kids that cute, it would be impossible to NOT get cute shots (those pink galoshes kill me… just perfect!).

    Thanks to the Tews family for finding the (great!) location and also for being troopers in the cold. I hope you enjoyed your doughnuts and football game afterwards! (more…)

    Portraits :: The Frank Family

    The Frank family is such a loving, beautiful family. I spent almost two hours with them in the wonderful Garfield Park Conservatory, where we walked around, learned the names of some plants, and played. And, as someone without children, I was definitely exhausted by the end of the shoot… but I must admit that it was a ton of fun!  I went for a more candid approach on these, so we could capture the natural energy of the boys, and I love the way that their personalities shine through (especially that first one up there!)
