About Redwall Photo

I totally feel like a cheater with this session. I had magical locations, perfect light, and the most natural, adorable clients…my job was made easy! I mean, seriously, Anna and Patrick could be models, right? And that light! Fall light has a gorgeous rich quality to it, and it was out in full force that day. Also, huge thanks to Blumgarten & Co. for letting us use their courtyard for the first part of the session. They are not only Anna & Patrick’s wedding florists, but are also only a few blocks away from my studio (we’re neighbors!).

I just love when everything comes together like this!

After a few weeks of almost non-stop rain and heavy cloud cover, I was resigned to the fact that we would be shooting this session in gloomy conditions. And, in fact, the session did start off overcast and a bit breezy. It was the kind of weather that could turn into a downpour, especially in Chicago… but, in what I’m taking a great omen for Sharon and John’s wedding, the sun came out full-force at the end of the session, and covered everything in an incredible orange haze. It was so dramatic that I think I might have audibly gasped when I saw it.

Since these guys will be married in just a few weeks at the awesome Pleasant Home in Oak Park, I’m going to put my theory of a positive sign to the test. I’m expecting nothing but the best of days. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’d also like to thank Sharon and John for doing a little rabbit-sighting (did I mention that they have a little bunny of their own?!), and so willingly exploring the surprisingly off-key areas of Montrose with me (who knew that so much debauchery went on within the trees?).

What do you do on a seriously gloomy day in the middle of summer? You laugh some, you break out the flash a bit, and, when it gets dark earlier than expected (thanks to the cloud cover), you rock out some silhouettes against the night sky.

This summer’s weather has been nuts, and I swear, I shot most of my engagement sessions under cloudy conditions, but it’s okay… my clients are great at hugging, squeezing, and smiling in all weather types. Gerrie and Mike were no exception, and I’m excited to photograph their Women’s Club of Evanston wedding in just a few weeks, rain or shine.

So take that, Mr. Sunshine.
