This is cheating a bit. I did these portraits for my day job, but I liked them so much that I wanted to share them here too. And actually, while I was setting up my lights, I found out that Amanda and I know a lot of the same people. She goes to a lot of local concerts around the area and is friends with one of my good friends. I think we might have spent more time chatting than shooting. Don’t you just love when you randomly run into people like that? (more…)

Sneak Peek :: Ruti
January 10th, 2010
Ruti is a classical pianist and wanted some dramatic photos for use in her work, as well as for her website. She was fantastic about really having a clear image of what she wanted, and I put my own spin on what she told me. These are just a few of the photos we took during the few hours we were shooting. There are several more gems, but I just had time for a quick sneak peek tonight. Ruti, I hope these match the vision that you had! (more…)
Portraits :: The Tews Family
December 29th, 2009
This was one of the last family sessions I did this year, because Chicago winters are just not good for outdoor shoots! I was a little sad that the sun didn’t peek out for our morning family session, but I still think we got some adorable shots. I mean, with kids that cute, it would be impossible to NOT get cute shots (those pink galoshes kill me… just perfect!).
Thanks to the Tews family for finding the (great!) location and also for being troopers in the cold. I hope you enjoyed your doughnuts and football game afterwards! (more…)
Portraits :: The Frank Family
December 14th, 2009
The Frank family is such a loving, beautiful family. I spent almost two hours with them in the wonderful Garfield Park Conservatory, where we walked around, learned the names of some plants, and played. And, as someone without children, I was definitely exhausted by the end of the shoot… but I must admit that it was a ton of fun! I went for a more candid approach on these, so we could capture the natural energy of the boys, and I love the way that their personalities shine through (especially that first one up there!)
Portraits :: The Lowe Family
December 7th, 2009
With the holidays, I’ve seemingly been doing more family sessions than anything else. However, this family session is a little different… they’re my cousins! For Thanksgiving, I went to Maryland (as is tradition) to a household of innumerable aunts, uncles, cousins, and second cousins. While I was there, my cousin and I decided to take 15 minutes and do some quick family portraits… nothing fancy, just head out to a field in the subdivision, work with available light, and see what we got. Luckily, whenever you throw a cute baby into the mix, it’s hard to get anything but cute pictures. (more…)
